Adoption

There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to adoption. Some question you may be asking include:

“Will I be able to see my child again?” “Will my child resent me when he/she grows up?” “Will I regret my decision” “Is adoption a selfish and easy way out?” “Will the adoptive family love my baby as much as I can?”

Some women fear stigmas surrounding adoption and stress about making the right adoption plan. Many women choose adoption if they aren’t ready to be a parent and are uncomfortable with abortion. Whatever your reasons for considering adoption, we can help! It’s important for you to understand the different types of adoption plans you can make. Remember that you are in control of the plan and can make the decisions that are right for you.

Open Adoption

In an open adoption, there is some information and level of contact between you, the child and the adoptive family. Most women who choose open adoptions do so as a way to have a relationship with their child and the adoptive family.
In an open adoption, you can have communication with your child and regular visits can be arranged. This option is best for people who desire a relationship but aren’t able to be parents themselves.

Closed Adoption

A closed adoption is best for women who prefer not to have ongoing communication with their child or adoptive family. This decision can be made for a variety of reasons. There should be no shame or judgement in that.

In a closed adoption, the birth records will be sealed, meaning the child will never be able to contact you or find out who you are. This allows you to remain anonymous and move forward with your life.

Semi-Open Adoption

As the name sounds, a semi-open adoption is somewhere in between an open and closed adoption. You will work to put together the plan that is right for you with the input of the adoptive family. Both sides can stipulate terms, like how communication will work moving forward, etc.
