No-cost Ultrasounds

Ultrasound technology is a safe, effective tool that helps medical personnel better understand your pregnancy. The more knowledge you have, the more confident you will be in making a pregnancy decision.

Our clinic offers no-cost limited obstetrical ultrasounds administered by a registered diagnostic medical sonographer after you have received a positive pregnancy test result. Both the pregnancy test and ultrasound are performed on the same day during your 1-hour appointment. No insurance is required, and there is no co-pay for this service.

How Do Ultrasounds Work?

An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of your uterus.  The echoes of the sound waves are transmitted back and transformed into images.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?

Limited obstetrical ultrasounds are essential to provide you with crucial information about your pregnancy, such as the following:

The Viability of Your Pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. An ultrasound can determine if your pregnancy is viable (growing with a detectable heartbeat) or if you have miscarried.

The Location of Your Pregnancy

Ensuring the pregnancy is located within the uterus is essential. A pregnancy implanted outside the uterus is called an ectopic pregnancy. Although rare, it can be a potentially life-threatening complication if not monitored and treated appropriately.

The Gestational Age of Your Pregnancy

The gestational age refers to the number of weeks you have been pregnant. Knowing the gestational age of your pregnancy is important because it determines what pregnancy options are available to you.

Are You Considering Abortion?

Some abortion methods aren’t recommended after a certain number of weeks. We encourage you to get accurate information first by scheduling a no-cost limited obstetrical ultrasound with our clinic after your positive pregnancy test result.

Once you know the dating, viability, and location of your pregnancy, as determined by ultrasound, you will have the opportunity to sit down with our medical staff to go over your results. The dating of your pregnancy determines which abortion procedures you would be eligible for. The viability and location of your pregnancy determine if an abortion is even necessary.

Make an empowered decision with the information about your pregnancy that you receive at Options for Women St. Croix Valley.
